The Kelowna community fridge is a free fridge + pantry located on unceded and traditional Syilx territory, currently without a host.
KCF is a completely volunteer operated mutual-aid initiative that aims to provide 24/7 access to free food.

about us
The Kelowna community fridge exists on unceded and traditional Syilx land. We acknowledge that this land was and is taken by imperial and extractive violence. While organizing towards food justice, we should not ignore the current and present harms of colonialism and it’s direct connection to food insecurity.
KCF is for and by the community — we believe access to food is a human right and encourage all members of the community to utilize the fridge, no questions asked. KCF is open to everyone, 24/7, to take or share food or goods, without meeting qualifications to participate.
KCF relies on volunteers to help keep the fridge and area safe, clean, and organized. If you have 15-20 minutes available in your week, please signup to help tidy the fridge here (signup.com/go/OCOABxb). Anything helps, especially on days that are not currently filled!

Language that shames others for how much they need or how often they use the fridge is absolutely discouraged.
Please do not comment on what others donate unless it is harmful, rotting, or expired. If commenting on harmful items, please do so from a constructive place of care.
All are encouraged to take as much as they need, which only they can decide for themselves. No contribution is too small.

We want to encourage a safe space for the community to use the fridge where every member’s unique needs are valued. Policing what others donate or take is harmful and can make the space unwelcome for folks to return.
Members of our community deserve respect and autonomy in accessing their needs.

The supply and maintenance of the fridge is indebted to both visible and invisible labour of community members—from stocking, cleaning, organizing, and knowledge sharing.
The community fridge is not the only way to confront food sovereignty or support the community through mutual aid. There is no one way to support your community, but we can start by listening to the needs of those most affected by colonial capitalism.
We all have a role in creating caring communities, within or outside of the space of the community fridge.
